The Power of Quotes

About 2 years ago I started collecting quotes. I don't know why I started, but what I do know is I cannot stop. To date I have collected around 110. This number is bound to grow in the next few days as I always come across new and impactful quotes that move, inspire or challenge me.

Quotes like

"Your competency will take you only as far as your character will sustain you" - Carey Niewhof

or

"Most people don't lead their life, they accept their life" - John Maxwell

or even

"The best ability is availability" - Dr. Chris Williamson

I love how these quotes can be so few words yet be so powerful and thought provoking. It has inspired me to try to sum up my thoughts into quotes or axioms.

This practice of collecting quotes or writing your own is so useful for you as a leader. If you collect quotes you have an arsenal of self motivation at your fingertips. If you are anything like me you even go back and categorize the notes by topic. You would be amazed at the number of times I have been able to pull a quote out of my head at just the right time and in just the right way to have an impact on someone else all because I wrote it down and read through it every once in a while. If you are writing your own quotes or axioms, it forces you to consolidate your thoughts. You must choose the words that embody your feelings and convey the essence of your thoughts. It is a powerful practice.
